The Mindset of Math

Many kids that come to our program have a strained relationship with Math. Often their inner dialogue is, "I am just not good at Math." Our strength lies in explaining concepts in a simple, practical, and relevant way. Breaking things down into easy steps and encouraging the heck out of students in-order to change their internal dialogue. I mentor my students, helping them acquire the tools to be successful. This is all done with the idea of keeping learning enjoyable. I am empathetic with students on their Math journey, as my journey was unconventional( see below). Helping kids change their mindset and being a soft place to land is one of the greatest parts of my job here.

Currently I teach up to and including Grade 10 Math. If your child is experiencing issues please email or call, we would love to help!

My Math Journey

My early experiences with Math were great, but things quickly changed in high school. By grade 11, I failed out of Math. My beliefs around Math completely changed from being a confident overachiever to someone that completely lost confidence and was certain, he was not a "Math Person." Years later I completed my Grade 11 Math and was off to BCIT. It was there that I rediscovered my confidence and appreciation of Math. By the time I finished my master's degree I had completed many advanced Finance, Economics, and Business Math courses achieving high marks in all. What changed? I saw the connection between Math and the real world and I gained confidence. As the concepts came to life so did my attention and effort. As I started to see the application of Math through Business school, I decided to challenge my old ways of thinking. I remember what it feels like to fear, loathe, and struggle with Math. I also remember what it was like to reverse direction and take the necessary steps to get there.
